How Funeral Professionals Help With Veteran Benefits
Licensed funeral professionals play an important role in helping veteran families navigate the process of requesting burial flags, coordinating military funeral honors, and understanding VA benefit options.
Requesting Burial Flags
Burial flags are requested through the funeral home at the time of arrangement. Licensed funeral professionals submit the request to the VA on behalf of the family and ensure the flag is presented properly at the service.
Coordinating Military Funeral Honors
Licensed funeral professionals coordinate with the Department of Defense to arrange military funeral honors for eligible veterans. This includes notifying the appropriate military branch and coordinating the timing and logistics of the honors ceremony.
Assisting With National Cemetery Requests
Burial in a VA national cemetery is requested through the funeral home. Licensed funeral professionals submit the burial request to the National Cemetery Scheduling Office and coordinate the logistics of the interment.
Providing Documentation Guidance
Licensed funeral professionals are experienced in identifying the documents needed to request VA burial benefits and can assist families in locating or requesting missing records, such as the DD-214.
